Irish Music Night with Kate Knudsvig and Richard Hearn

BIMS is hosting a session and performance with fiddler Kate Knudsvig and accompanist Richard Hearn! Come join us for a youth session from 6-7:00, performance from 7:00-8:00, and tunes from 8:00-10.

No cover, but a donation will be taken for the band.

Classical violinist and Irish fiddler Kate Knudsvig was born in Hof, Germany, and currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, where she works as a freelance musician in and around the area. Formative years spent in a household with two classical brass-musician parents laid the foundation for her musical interests. This eventually led her to earning a BM in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music and an MM in Contemporary Musical Arts from the New England Conservatory.

While studying at Eastman with Federico Agostini and later with Juliana Athayde, Kate’s artistic trajectory took an unexpected turn as she found herself drawn to styles of music apart from classical. During this time she explored a number of different genres, taking three independent studies in jazz and jazz theory, playing with a bluegrass band, and co-founding the alternative-folk and singer-songwriter group, Copper Hill. This interest in non-classical styles led to her attendance at the New England Conservatory, where she fell in love with Irish traditional music and obtained a Master’s degree in Contemporary Musical Arts under the guidance of renowned Irish fiddler and educator, Liz Knowles. Amid her musical pursuits, Kate also earned a minor in Music Theory, a passion that emerged as a defining hallmark of her artistic identity.

Kate now divides her time between classical music and Irish traditional music, a combination that Boston’s vibrant musical scene lends itself to exceedingly well. In June of 2022, she represented the New England Conservatory in the International Benchmarking Group’s 21st Century Orchestra, which was comprised of students from eight of the top music schools in the world at the IBG’s conference at the Royal Northern Conservatory of Music. She has performed in Symphony Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, has been a guest artist and recorded with Palaver Strings, is the Principal 2nd Violinist for the Brockton Symphony Orchestra and can regularly be found at Irish sessions around Boston. A touring musician, Kate is the fiddle player in the PBS supergroup Celtic Thunder and also regularly performs with one of their lead singers, world-renowned Irish tenor Emmet Cahill.

Smut Slam Baltimore: Party Harder

Play sexy games, win sexy prizes at this inclusive real-life storytelling open mic-- a perfect date night at a swanky cocktail lounge!

New Year's festivities may be behind us, but we can still light up the night with a rowdy remembrance of our carnal celebrations! We're pack animals at heart, so it's only natural that we should sometimes be party animals in heat. The cold outside ain't the only thing making your bits tingle when you reunite with the Slamily for a new year of sizzling stories.

This month, we're kicking off 2026 and beating the January doldrums with our theme of "Party Harder". You're cordially invited to share your tales of sharing tail with a dozen of your sluttiest friends. Did anyone notice when you and your instant-chemistry intro ducked into an unused room at the party? We want to hear if your first orgy lived up to its hype. How did you reignite your marriage bed by seducing each other masked at the ball?

(Not familiar with Smut Slam? It’s a storytelling open mic where audience members sign up for 5-minute slots to tell their best real-life, first-person, consensual sex stories. It’s queer-friendly, kink-friendly, lifestyle-friendly, body-positive, sex-positive, and wildly fun. No costumes, no notes, no gimmicks, just straight-up raw truth! See the full rules and how it works on our Rules of the Road page. Don't have a story that's on theme? That's okay-- the theme is just a suggestion!)

As always, we have the Fuckbucket where audience members can throw in anonymous confessions or questions to enter the free raffle for a smutty prize courtesy of our sponsor, Uberlube. All storytellers will get a little swag bag to reward their courage, and we've got some fabulous storytelling prize packs on tap for our top three tellers, too—you could win a sexy little something to keep the party going at home!

Your fabulous femme-cee is longtime Smut Slam Baltimore/DC producer and burlesque performer Diva Darling, joined by a panel of local celebrity judges who've put the s'il vous PLAIT back in RSVP.

Join us before the show to enjoy light pub fare and sample the decadent cocktail and mocktail menu. Get your copy of Anonymous Sex, the Smut Slam International book edited and signed by Diva.

This event has been selling out in presales, so door tickets may or may not be available. However, should they be available, they are $25 payable in cash, PayPal, Venmo, or CashApp. If the show is sold out but you want to take a chance on waiting, the Bluebird has two other bar rooms where you can enjoy food and drinks. We recommend arriving close to 7, asking the door person to take your name for the wait list, and coming back at about 7:50 to see if we've had no-shows or last-minute cancellations and can sell you a ticket. Usually we can, but buying in advance is better-- you can get a refund up to the day before the show if you can't make it.

TICKETS

Tickets: $15 early bird, $20 presale, $25 door

(want to give back to your community? Can't make the show, but want to help others attend? Choose the "contribute to gift tickets" option to fund community tickets for those in economic hardship! Gift tickets are made available as they're funded, no questions asked-- please only take one if you actually need it and if not, save them for those who do. We especially encourage federal workers who are on administrative leave or fired to enjoy a gift ticket, so please consider supporting them!)

Doors: 7:00pm

Show: 8:00pm

Hosted and Produced by: Diva Darling

Diva Darling is the producer and femme-cee of the standing-room-only sex-themed storytelling show Smut Slam DC, and now of Smut Slam Baltimore and co-producer of the just-debuted Smut Slam Greater Philly (with Lola Kat). About Madeline + Jackson

Madeline and Jackson met playing indie rock, connected over a love for Irish and Scottish fiddle tunes, and play and sing Appalachian Old-time music whenever they can. Their originals incorporate all of these, ranging from earthy double fiddle to hard hitting country sounds.

Madeline Dierauf is a Bluegrass, Old-time, and Irish fiddler from Brevard, North Carolina. A songwriter and singer as well, she is a founding member of Appalachian group The Wilder Flower (with Molly Johnson) and Baltimore-based Irish traditional trio The East Coasters. Growing up in Western North Carolina, Madeline Dierauf listened to and learned a diverse range of folk music and was immersed in the cultural traditions of Appalachia and beyond, through mentorship from Beanie O’Dell, Ellen Lee at the Mountain School of Strings, and Nicky Sanders. In 2020, she released her debut EP, Walk On By, and most recently, she released albums of original and traditional music with The Wilder Flower and The East Coasters. More recently, and showcasing her skills beyond the world of music, Dierauf has begun graduate studies at Oxford University in the UK.

Jackson Grimm is an accomplished and respected songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, band leader and teacher in the Western North Carolina music community. His original songs marry folk pop melodies with the lonesome sound of traditional Appalachian music. He also performs a wide range of traditional American old-time songs and fiddle tunes. In a region with a strong music culture, it is no surprise that Grimm's songwriting is representative of his musical birthplace: Asheville, NC. He has released two albums of original music and has been a featured performer and producer on numerous other studio albums. Grimm can be found performing under his own name, as well as a key member of bands such as Holler Choir, Susto Stringband, Old Sap, Hannah Kaminer & the Wistfuls. He won the 2025 LEAF Songwriting competition and has been a 2 year finalist for Songwriter Serenade. He has shared the stage with and opened up for acts such as Molly Tuttle, Sierra Ferrell, Shadowgrass, The Wilder Flower, Arlo Guthrie, Ordinary Elephant, Nathan Evans Fox, and more.

Smut Slam Baltimore: Hot Frosty

Play sexy games, win sexy prizes at this inclusive real-life storytelling open mic-- a perfect date night at a swanky cocktail lounge!

The weather outside is frightful, but inside we're sooooo delightful! The temperatures aren't the only ones going down when we all put the longest nights to their best use. Santa Daddy's coming with a sack of toys fit for all the good little pervs, and Krampus got dat tongue and whip ready to give the naughty list their lashings. Come raise a spicy cup of cheer with the Slamily at our hedonistic hearth for the most bedtime of stories!

This month, we're closing out another smutty year with the theme of "Hot Frosty". You might not have sculpted the caked-up snowman joyfriend of your dreams (yet...) but talk to us about the booty call babe who blows back into town every winter. What happened with your smokin' work crush at that office holiday party of excess? Regale us with tales of getting your halls decked or donning your gayest apparel. What did your angel look like when you got frisky in the snow?

Your fabulous femme-cee is longtime Smut Slam Baltimore/DC producer and burlesque performer Diva Darling, joined by a panel of local celebrity judges who might just let you sit on their laps and tell them what you most desire.
