Baltimore Irish Music School Presents: Lane to the Glen

The Baltimore Irish Music school is hosting a concert with renowned Irish musicians Oisín Mac Diarmada (fiddle), Daithí Gormley (accordion), and Samantha Harvey (piano/dance) at the Green Room in Hampden. Doors are at 6PM, music starts at 7PM.

Tickets are $10 for children under 18 and $25 general admission. Reserve tickets below or pay at the door.

Oisín Mac Diarmada and Daithí Gormley are steeped in the music and history of the Sligo area, having previously collaborated on ‘Fiddlers of Sligo Tunebook’, a publication revealing the wealth of the fiddle repertoire of key Sligo musicians over the past 100 years. Joined by pianist/dancer Samantha Harvey, the trio are bringing this repertoire and the classic traditional sound of fiddle, accordion, piano and dance to audiences, sharing the joy of this timeless music.

Daithí Gormley is widely regarded as one of the finest button accordion players of his generation. His remarkably accomplished debut album Fiddling without a Bow brought an expressive mix of old and new tunes played with an attention to detail, and he is regarded as a conduit to past masters of Irish traditional music.

Oisín Mac Diarmada and Samantha Harvey perform frequently with Téada, a worldwide-touring band founded by Oisín in 2001. Oisín and Samantha previously recorded The Green Branch, a sparkling album of fiddle and piano in 2015, with subsequent teaching and performing engagements in places such as the United States, Italy, France, and Japan.

Baltimore Folk Club Presents: Babineau & Chartrand

Baltimore Folk Club Presents: Babineau & Chartrand

About Babineau & Chartrand

Nicolas Babineau (modern fiddle, acoustic guitar) and Alexis Chartrand (baroque violin, foot percussion) offer a captivating dive into Québec’s musical traditions. Inspired by a century of irresistible dance and fiddle music, they reveal the beautiful intricacy of Québécois traditional melodies. Babineau/Chartrand’s uniquely sensitive and intimate approach brings together modern fiddling and baroque violin, bridging the gap between the old and the new. Hailed in 2019 as “two must-hears of Québécois traditional music” (Penguin Eggs), they have performed throughout Québec and Canada, have shared their folklore with audiences in the United States and Sweden, and have released three albums. Their 2024 collaboration with Nicolas Ellis and Orchestre de l’Agora "was a revelation and an intense emotional shock” (Le Devoir).

Montreal fiddler Alexis Chartrand has traced a singular path across the Québécois traditional music scene. “Known for his pensive reworkings of Québécois fiddle tunes” (Songlines), he has pioneered the use of baroque violin and bows for the interpretation of this repertoire. His partnership with multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer Nicolas Babineau has led to the release of three albums, and to many concerts in Québec, Canada, the United States and Sweden. Hailed in 2019 as “two must-hears of Québécois traditional music” (Penguin Eggs), their 2024 collaboration with Nicolas Ellis and Orchestre de l’Agora « was a revelation and an intense emotional shock” (Le Devoir). He has explored the connection between music and dance with percussive dancers Nic Gareiss and Antoine Turmine. He has released duo albums with multi-instrumentalists Colin Savoie-Levac and Cédric Dind-Lavoie.

Active in the traditional Québécois music scene, Nicolas Babineau is a multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer appreciated for his sensitive and versatile musicality. It is the world of Québécois traditional fiddlers, their incomparable style and their unobtrusively rich repertoire, that now inspires his work on the violin. As a guitarist, Nicolas is an accompanist recognized for his poignant, minimalistic approach. His duo with Montréal fiddler Alexis Chartrand, which focuses on melodies inherited from 20th century fiddlers, has performed in Québec, across Canada, in the United States and in Sweden. Numerous ensembles such as Orchestre de l’Agora, Yves Lambert Trio, La Bottine Souriante and Réveillons! have benefited from his virtuosity on the fiddle, the guitar and the mandolin during concerts in Canada, Chile, Spain, France and the United States. Having contributed his talents in the sound engineering, mixing and production of more than 15 folk, he capture the immediacy of unedited performances, offering recordings praised for their “soft and intimate ambiance”, which allows the listener to “focus on the smallest details”.

Price: $20 in advance // $25 at the door // $10 for students (with valid ID) and children under 18

After registering, please send $20 per adult and $10 per child under 18 or student via Venmo to @raosban, or with PayPal to virgil.osban@gmail.com. You can also pay in cash at the door.

Smut Slam Baltimore: Strange Bedfellows

This event has been selling out in presales, so door tickets may or may not be available. However, should they be available, they are $25 payable in cash, PayPal, Venmo, or CashApp. If the show is sold out but you want to take a chance on waiting, the Bluebird has two other bar rooms where you can enjoy food and drinks. We recommend arriving close to 7, asking the door person to take your name for the wait list, and coming back at about 7:50 to see if we've had no-shows or last-minute cancellations and can sell you a ticket. Usually we can, but buying in advance is better-- you can get a refund up to the day before the show if you can't make it.

Enemies to lovers, opposites attract-- sometimes the people you think you'd despise are the ones you end up desiring most fiercely! And sometimes, you get the womp-womp of a cold shower on your chemistry when your smokin' Tinder date drops a big ole YIKES in the heat of the moment. As we embrace the arrival of autumn, let's fall in lust with true tales of culture clashes, improbable affairs, and love-hate hookups.

This month, our theme is "Strange Bedfellows". Regale us with your Austen-esque saga of the most despicable human you've ever mashed. Did you leave Chad hanging, or let him filibuster all over you when he took a more popular position? Tell us how you tempted someone from "Forgive me, Father" to "Daddy, I've been bad"? We want to hear how fighting like cats and dogs turned into fucking like bunnies.

(Not familiar with Smut Slam? It’s a storytelling open mic where audience members sign up for 5-minute slots to tell their best real-life, first-person, consensual sex stories. It’s queer-friendly, kink-friendly, lifestyle-friendly, body-positive, sex-positive, and wildly fun. No costumes, no notes, no gimmicks, just straight-up raw truth! See the full rules and how it works on our Rules of the Road page. Don't have a story that's on theme? That's okay-- the theme is just a suggestion!)

As always, we have the Fuckbucket where audience members can throw in anonymous confessions or questions to enter the free raffle for a smutty prize courtesy of our sponsor, Satisfyer. All storytellers will get a little swag bag to reward their courage, and we've got some fabulous storytelling prize packs on tap for our top three tellers, too—you could win a sexy little something to keep the party going at home!

Your fabulous femme-cee is longtime Smut Slam Baltimore/DC producer and burlesque performer Diva Darling, joined by a panel of local celebrity judges who love a good angry bang.

Join us before the show to enjoy light pub fare and sample the decadent cocktail and mocktail menu. Get your copy of Anonymous Sex, the Smut Slam International book edited and signed by Diva.

About the Artist:

Sarah Collins is a fiddle player based in the Baltimore/DC area with deep roots in the Boston traditional music community. After spending part of her childhood in Edinburgh, she grew up immersed in the Scottish music scene, and her playing today blends influences from Irish and Old-Time fiddle styles.

Sarah has taught at a number of fiddle camps, including Hanneke Cassel's Pure Dead Brilliant Fiddle Weekend, Katie McNally's Boston States Fiddle Camp, and the CCE Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Weekend in Washington, DC. She will also join the faculty for Baltimore's Irish Trad Fest in April 2025. Sarah regularly hosts Irish sessions in both DC and Baltimore, creating spaces for musicians to gather and share tunes.

Sarah currently performs with two bands: an Irish trio with David McKindley-Ward and Marty Frye, and a duo with 5-string banjo player Jonathan Vocke. She also joined the Scottish band Old Blind Dogs for a U.S. tour in March 2025. She has collaborated with many talented musicians over the years, including Eamon Sefton, Conor Hearn, Maura Shawn Scanlin, Calum Bell, and Kate Gregory. You can find videos of some of those collaborations on her YouTube page.

In response to the isolation of the pandemic, Sarah co-founded the Ministry of Folk, a project dedicated to keeping folk music alive through community engagement. She also co-produces monthly concerts for the Baltimore Folk Club with Richard Osban, supporting Baltimore's local folk scene.

With a passion for both music and community, Sarah continues to make her mark in the folk and traditional music world.

Smut Slam Baltimore: Photo Finish

Say "please!" Capturing memories on film (or, well, pixels) is always sweet...but it can be downright spicy too. The third eye of the camera brings a sprinkle of taboo to erotic romps, so let's come in from the heat and make the Bluebird sizzle with our stories of boudoir shoots!

This month, our theme is "Photo Finish". Seduce us with details of your long-distance nudes. Scandalize us with your (authorized) sex tapes! How did your salacious photo session improve your relationship, or your body image? We want to hear all about how you put the "spread" back in "photo spread".

See the full rules and how it works on our Rules of the Road page.)

Your fabulous femme-cee is longtime Smut Slam Baltimore/DC producer and burlesque performer Diva Darling, joined by a panel of local celebrity judges who think you belong in pictures.

Join us before the show to enjoy light pub fare and sample the decadent cocktail and mocktail menu. Get your copy of Anonymous Sex, the Smut Slam International book edited and signed by Diva.

Tickets: $15 early bird, $20 presale, $25 door
